22/05/2018: In Praise of Ordinary Time

I want to take a moment to speak in praise of Ordinary Time, when our hangings change from red's intensity to base, unburnt, verdant leaves.

In liturgical time, we gather up our lives and align them with the rhythms of Christ. But it is only after Ascensiontide that we are returned to confront our historical moment: anno dominiin the year of the one we love but no longer see.

To live in desire for Christ is to live in mourning for the son; but when the Pentecostal flames of the spirit land not on the Godly flesh of Jesus but on the Ordinary flesh of the Apostles, each one of us is taken up into the Trinity.

Ordinary, we are graced, and so by faith, Ordinary we live.
